Hare Krsna Ashram Malaysia is located in Batu Kawan, Penang. It has branches in Johor Bharu, Kuala Lumpur and Pulau Pinang and also has preaching centers at different locations.
The Temple at Batu Kawan has Sri Sri Radha Gopinath as the presiding Deities. These beautiful Deities remind the devotees of the sweet atmosphere of Vrindavana with Lord Krsna and Srimati Radharani being the center of attraction. There are also Deities of Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga (Nityananda Prabhu and Lord Chaitanya) and Sri Prahlada Narasimha. The Narasimha Deity here is six-handed and looks peaceful with His devotee Prahlada Maharaja standing close by and offering prayers.
In order to elevate the consciousness of the general mass of people to spirituality, devotees at the temple and its branches, extensively distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books, serve prasadam and conduct sankirtan of the Lord’s holy names. Special festivals are organized at different times of the year and thus all devotees get a chance to remember the Lord and participate in the joyful celebrations. Sri Sri Krsna Balarama Ratha Yatra is one of such festivals which attract thousands of devotees to the temple.
House program: This program provides an opportunity for householders to invite some of the temple devotees to their homes and conduct kirtans, lectures, puja, etc.
School programs: Prasadam distribution and vastra dana (donating school-dress) are some of the important activities conducted at many schools by the Hare Krsna Ashram.
Prasadam Distribution: Food distribution is considered to be the supreme of all charities. Srila Prabhupada wanted everyone to taste the nectar of devotion. The food that is offered to Krsna is considered the divine nectar that can alleviate our suffering by freeing us from sins. Srila Prabhupada insisted that everyone who visits the temple must get some prasadam. We have been distributing prasadam to every visitor since we started and in the year 1999. We have also started distributing prasadam to the schools, hospitals, old folks homes and to the neediest.
Hare Krsna Ashram, Malaysia has taken up an ambitious project of constructing Sri Sri Radha Krsna Diamond Temple and Prabhupada Cultural Centre. The Bhumi-puja (shilanyas) of the same was performed on 27th May 2012.
The temple and cultural complex would feature a blend of traditional South Indian Chola architecture with modern design aspects. Exhibition halls, guest house and residential quarters for devotees are among the other highlights of this project. The land is located at a close distance from what is being envisaged by the government as the future hub of major trade and commercial activities.
Upon completion of the project, the complex would function as a beacon diffusing the much needed light of spiritual knowledge and culture with its various in-house socio-spiritual activities and outreach programs.
2006 – Hare Krsna Ashram Malaysia purchased land for the construction of the diamond temple and the bank loan quantum was approved for 10 years.
2011 – The temple layout plan was approved by the Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai.
2012 – The temple building plan was approved in July.
2016 -Piling work was completed in December.
– With the support of well-wishers and devotees, we managed to complete paying the loan for the purchase of the land within the stipulated 10 years.
2017– Piling cap works have begun already.
By the blessings of the Lord and his devotees, we have been conducting regular preaching programs and running a full on temple with our presiding Deities at the current premise where the new diamond temple is going to be consecrated.
The new temple is estimated to cost around 14 million ringgit and we humbly encourage everyone to support the construction of Penang’s new and upcoming iconic spiritual treasure.
